What do you do?

defiance duo is available for performances and clinics. We are targeted towards high school and college music programs, but can certainly make other programs work! We’ll work with you to fit our visit to your group as we can do any combination of formal or informal performance, composition reading sessions, or lessons, workshops or masterclasses centered on voice, marimba, composition, chamber or contemporary music.

What kind of music do you perform?

Short answer – a little bit of everything! As the combination of marimba and voice is relatively (and surprisingly) unusual, we are somewhat forging our own path. The inspiration for our duo really came from our first performance in this setting as we performed duo member Jamie Kunselman’s Songs of the Earth specifically written for the two of us. We have also explored the existing repertoire for the combination and will perform those contemporary works. Beyond that, we’ve arranged everything from a Bach aria to a traditional folk song to a pop/musical theater hit for the duo. We hope as the duo grows, that the repertoire available for the combination will grow with us!

Where are you based and where will you perform?

We are currently based out of Berea, Ohio, but we both love to travel! Our only stipulation for where we will perform is that there is a marimba or we can gain access to one. Eventually, we will travel with our own, but that is not currently possible! Near or far, please don’t hesitate to contact us to see if we can work something out for your group!

What’s the cost?

The cost will vary depending on the program we set up and the cost to travel to your location. Please contact us for more details!
